Email Blast Jan 16 2013: First Update of Season

Team Leaders, this is the first update of the 2013 season.  Just as a reminder, this email only comes to you as main contact/team leader.  It is your responsibility to pass this information on to mentors, team members, parents, etc. as you see appropriate. 

FIRST Team 2220, Blue Twilight, STEM Career Fair - The Eagan High School Robotics team will be hosting a STEM Career Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 6pm-– 8 pm at Eagan High School in the school lunchroom.  The team has lined up 50+ professionals for you to meet and understand what they do in their work lives.  See the MN FIRST Regional website for additional details (  If your team members are thinking about STEM-–related occupations, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn about practitioners in a variety of engineering and science disciplines.

The qualification criteria for the MSHSL State Championship are now on the MN FIRST Regional website (  The event is May 18th at Williams Arena on the U of MN Twin Cities campus.  Note that all FIRST rules governing Bag & Tag events apply.

 For those of you who were at the Minneapolis Kickoff, you heard my plea for volunteers to help run the FIRST Regional events in the state.  The addition of 29 rookie teams (total number of teams is 180) and a 4th regional (Northern Lights) has really taxed our volunteer base and we need your help to grow it greatly.  We are exhausting our resources and need you to help us find additional people.  These event volunteers can be mentors (yes, many mentors are already volunteering), parents, friends, team alumni, etc.  Descriptions of all the volunteer positions on the FIRST website at (  As you find volunteers, please have them register using the Volunteer Information and Matching System (VIMS) at (  If you have specific questions about positions that aren’t answered in the descriptions, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Laurie Shimizu at (lfshimizu AT
